Community winter welfare event is a big success

North Birkenhead Development Trust worked in partnership to deliver a successful winter welfare event at the St. James Centre on Friday 13th January.

The event was held as part of National Energy Action’s Warm Homes Campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of being able to live in a warm, comfortable home.

Local partners including Energy Projects Plus, Involve Northwest, Magenta Living and Wirral Council’s Healthy Homes Team ran stalls on the day, providing valuable advice on keeping warm and well over the winter months to over 100 people. Local MP Frank Field also attended and spoke in support of the NEA’s Warm Homes Campaign.

Practical support was specifically targeted at people and families living in fuel poverty and struggling to meet their energy bills. Local residents who attended the event spoke about its positive impact. Comments included:

“Thanks very much. It’s been great and we’ve had lots of really helpful advice.”

“Absolutely amazing – my friend has finally got some help.”

“I’ve got a massive gas debt and didn’t know I could get help, so today’s event has been brilliant. Thank you.”

The event was one of several community sessions that VIRIDIS has supported this winter. The consortium undertook active promotion and provided a selection of useful event giveaways, such as cloth bags and room thermometers.
